Retiring Moments

sports nfl brett favre The end of Brett Favre's great career.
So now Green Bay Packers quarterback Brett Favre says his emotions got the best of him and he never really wanted to be traded from the Packers anyways, and it was just his competitive nature coming out. All this was brought about by the New England Patriots acquisition of Oakland Raiders wide receiver and NFL “problem child” Randy Moss on draft day. Favre said the deal was a steal and the fact that the Packers did not go after him, showed they weren’t really serious about contending while he is still at the reins on the field.

Johnny Damon Sellout

sports baseball johnny damon Stars like Brett Favre who stick around a team for a career are rarer and rarer.

Anyways, I would just like to thank Kevin Garnett, Tim Duncan, Manu Ginobli, Brian Urlacher, even Brett Favre, and some of my other favorite players for finding the team that fits them and playing with them and not selling out every three years.

Eagles Thoughts

sports nfl brett favre It's hard to tell which QB is more inept this year.

After yesterday’s Eagles-Packers game, in which Brett Favre competed with Mike McMahon for the title of Week 12 Inept QB, do you still think the Birds would be undefeated if the Green Bay Overthrow King was their signal caller this season?

I Forgive You

sports nfl brett favre signals Musings of a prognosticator gone awry.

I’m sorry but this is all just too much. Don’t get me wrong I love the pairity the NFL brings to the table, but would someone please act as they should. The Eagles don’t get blown out by Dallas. The Jets can’t possibly have a turn-around season on their fourth option at quarterback this year, especially since he’ll be celebrating his 42nd birthday on November 13th when the Jets visit Carolina. I don’t care how good they are, the Bengals are not allowed to be 4-1, this is principle people. And how in God’s name are Miami and Cleveland both at .500? Please football gods, I implore you, as a faithful football junkie, give me something I count on. Give me something to believe in. Oh, and one more thing, please let Brett Favre and the Packers continue to get ravaged. I know last week was an accident. I forgive you.

A Celebrity That is Really Helping

sports nfl kiln county poster Brett Favre's help to his home state is generating lots of posts.

I am not a big fan of football but I may have to become a cheesehead after reading about what Brett Favre and the Green Bay Packers are doing for Mississippi. As many of you know, Brett Favre grew up the Kiln, a small town about 30 miles from where I live. He has not forgotten the people he grew up with. His Fourward Foundation is a charitable organization that has long helped various groups. Today, the efforts of this foundation are directed to providing relief to hard hit Hancock County, the county in which Mr. Favre grew up. This is the county that had towns such as Lakeshore and Waveland disappear. The town of Pass Christian has been 70% demolished.

Packers Fly Supplies To Hurricane Katrina Victims

football nfl brett favre mug shot Lots of celebrities affected by and pitching in to help victims of Hurricane Katrina.

In Green Bay, Wis., star NFL quarterback Brett Favre spoke emotionally about the devastation in his boyhood home of Kiln, Miss. He said the Packers flew relief supplies to Tennessee on the team plane for distribution in Hattiesburg, Miss., and further south.

New Hobby

sports nfl brett favre card A collector is born.

I hopped on Ebay in search of some cards to get my new collection off the ground. I picked up a Michael Vick rookie card, a Ben Roethlisberger rookie card, a set of twelve Brett Favre rookie cards, and a Michael Jordan card from 1989. I’m reliving my youth folks. I want to center my collection on players who starred for Bay Area teams. I placed bets on a Joe Montana rookie card from 1981 and a Steve Young rookie card from 1986. I found a new hobby. I want to build it up and hold onto these suckers. When Brett Favre retires and gets into the Hall of Fame and Michael Vicks takes Atlanta to the Super Bowl I’ll be filthy rich.

Memories

sports nfl brett favre Nice tribute here to a dear woman.

I remember her being my best friend in the last years of her life. I took her to dinner twice a week and she would tell me about everything from the 30's when she lived in Chicago on the Loop & how she used to be a teacher on one of the first calculators ever made for doing the books at GreyHound Busline. We would talk about her dad and how he used to haul gravel 14 hours a day to build the first road from Brule to Superior. We talked about how she knocked her sisters two front teeth out with a broom stick when they were little and how she still felt bad about it. We would talk about football & how much she hated my dad's wife & how much more hair I used to have. We would make beef stew on football game days when all my other friends were in the bar watching the Packer game. We would high-five when Brett Favre threw a touchdown against the Vikings and she would say "Shit!" in a quiet little voice when the other team scored points.

Grasping Brett Favre's Cannon

sports football brett favre I'm not sure whether this is a sports commentary or a short piece on male anatomy.

Lets start with the slightly smaller name, posessing tons of talent none the less, Ill tell you why Javon is holding out, because hes a fucking pussy. His job is to grasp footballs with his big florida state hands, not manballs with aid from his mouth. it might be significantly harder catching those balls from the cannon of brett favre, but thats what hes getting paid to do. Javon has made over 5 million dollars in the first 3 years of his career, id let brett favre chuck footballs at my testicles for 3 hours every sunday for 5 million dollars, and occasionly slightly harder on monday nights. well, maybe not my testicles, but any other part of my body is fair game.

Budget Update

sports nfl brett favre with hand in air Point taken, but who's going to vote against Brett Favre as King of Wisconsin?

It is certain that you will see amendments from the Democrats that will kick in another $400 million for education, that will raise the state minimum wage, that will lift the caps on teacher salaries, that will declare Brett Favre the King of Wisconsin, and promote dressing bunnies up in cute little Mr. Peanut costumes. Republicans will vote against all of them, because the agreement between houses can’t be broken. Thus, you will see an ad during campaign season that says “Representative Debi Towns voted against cutening bunnies,” when in fact Representative Towns may be squarely pro-cute bunny. She herself might actually have a bunny at home fitted with a top hat, cane, and monacle. In fact, the elections board has reported that Towns has received $8 from bunny-related interests this biennium.

The Bledsoe Effect

sports nfl brett favre passing On quarterbacks and their receievers:

This all brings us to Terry Glenn. Terry had (by far) his three best years with Bledsoe throwing to him in New England, so these two know how to hook it up for big yards downfield. I’m sorry I can’t find the direct quote, but I’ve heard it said by Montana and Favre that the guys they threw to always had a connection with them that never left. I remember Brett Favre in a Sports Illustrated in the 90’s talking about how he and Robert Brooks wouldn’t practice before training camp, and when he threw that first pass it was...

I Hate Call-in Polls

sports nfl brett favre on bench I like Brett Favre, but one of the 100 Greatest American? I think not.

Egad. The Discovery Channel had one of those awful call-in polls selecting the "100 Greatest Americans," and Kevin Drum and his commenters go off on it. I'm not gonna bother (it's being scorned quite well without me piling on), but if you want to be astonished/amused/disturbed, go look at it. Some of the more egregious choices: from Hollywood: Katharine Hepburn, Lucille Ball, Marilyn Monroe, Mel Gibson, Tom Cruise, and Tom Hanks; from politics: both Bushes, John Edwards, Rudy Giulani and Barack Obama; from sports: Pat Tillman and Brett Favre.

Doesn't Hurt to Be a Sensitive Guy

sports nfl brett favre and peyton manning I agree about the Sensodyne adverts:

I don't know what Brett Favre is thinking doing this lame-o COUPON AD for Sensodyne. .. sure, atheletes do a lot of endorsements and sure, I uses Sensodyne and like it.. but when I saw this today all I could think was "oh how the mighty have fallen." Think this will be his last year?

Favregnugen

sports football brett favre gesticulates Maybe Brett Favre needs to talk with this blogger about his retirement.

Favre used to be the best QB in the league. But those days were long ago. Now, he's simply above average. Right now, if I had to choose between Jake Delhomme and Brett Favre to be the new QB of my favorite team, I'd pick Delhomme in a heartbeat. I'd also take Pennington, McNabb, Cupepper, Peyton, Brady, Brees, Green...shit, I'd probably take Bledsoe.
