Higher Hoops

sports nba jason kidd Do the hoops need an adjustment, or the players?

Hard as I tried, I couldn't really get into the game. For one thing, aside from Jason Kidd, there really wasn't any other player I wanted to root for. At the beginning of this year, I talked about how I had fallen off the wagon with basketball. Watching the other players on the court tonight, made me miss Stockton even more. I'm not impressed with these super tall, slam-dunking kids. Do you think it'll get to a point where they have to increase the height of the basket because players are getting too tall? It's all so ridiculous!

Knee Surgery

sport nba jason kidd This surgery is not a good omen.

Stoudemire had “microfracture” surgery, which is a fancy way of saying that a doctor drilled a hole in a bone near his knee. I’m not a doctor, though I’ve been known to play one (wink, wink), but I can’t imagine that causing a second injury to fix a first one is the kind of thing doctor’s do on a whim. Other famous basketball players who have had the surgery include Chris Webber, Jason Kidd and Jamal Mashburn. What do they all have in common? They all have bad contracts and can’t jump anymore.

Jason Kidd's Consuming Will

sports basketball jason kidd Jason Kidd is great to watch in these recent games.

This win, the Nets third in a row and ninth in their last ten, was all about the competitive fire of the best point guard in the NBA — Jason Kidd — and his consuming will to win. Not only did Kidd go off for 35 points, drop 8 dimes, and grab 8 boards, but he also held the Wiz’s high-scoring all-star point guard Gilbert Arenas, who came into the game averaging 25.7 points, to 8 points. It was a signature game from one of the NBA’s true superstars.

This year's MVP award is Jason Kidd's to lose, don't you think?

You can take the Kidd out of Jersey

jason kidd No way Kidd is going to last in New Jersey. He'll leave, or he'll be forced out. It doesn't even matter that he's the best thing the Nets have going for them.

And so now we come to Jason Kidd. Look for Kidd to start demanding his way out of New Jersey. He has done everything but that for most of the season with his tepid support for the Nets. This from a guy who had the chance to go to the Spurs but rejected it when the Nets came up with more than $100 million through 2008-09. Of course, the Nets had to take on Alonzo Mourning for $22 million without a physical at Kidd’s urging. Mourning complained his way out of New Jersey and is with Miami and a chance for a championship this season.
